The same principles apply to you men out there. You may want to meet a woman 15 years younger, but remember you’ve got to be patient enough to wait for a woman that wants to date a man 15 years older. When it comes to a person’s body frame, it is always best to start by saying you will date someone similar to yourself! You may find bigger frames or smaller frames attractive as well, but why eliminate options? We can then move on to the lifestyle choices: Smoking, kids, income and career. Wishful thinking says you want a non-smoker, with no kids, independently wealthy and has a great job. The reality is that a non-smoker is easy to find provided you don’t smoke. All smokers say they are trying to quit, but in the meantime, are they considerate smokers or chain smokers? There can be a difference.
Same goes for the children question; don’t be a hypocrite! If you have kids, be open to the fact that they have kids. Hopefully your relationship will last long enough for them to grow up and be more independent. Lifestyle is associated with income. It may be fantastic if you have a well-paying job and want to meet someone similar, but realistically, the average household income in Canada is just under $64,000 per year- and saying you only want to meet people that earn over $100k per year eliminates 90% of the country. So be patient if that is what you need.
When trying to define what it is you want in a partner it’s far too easy to create a list composed of what you don’t want. In the end, try staying focussed on the important values, attitudes and goals that you need to add to your already full life. Staying realistic makes the whole dating process more enjoyable simply because you eliminate opportunities for disappointment and increase chances for pleasant surprises.
